Milkweed & Beetles
  « August 27, 2010, 07:39 AM »

The milkweed pods are bursting open, the seeds are begining too fly, and the beetles are all over them. These things seem to offer a lot of photo possibilities and I just never seem to get what I am looking for,,,,, still a lot of fun.... Thanks for taking a look..

I actually shot a few macros of the beetles on my last trip down to Meadowview.... I'd never noticed them before this year, any clue what they are?

Yep... you're right.   Large Milkweed Beetle (Oncopeltus fasciatus).  Apparently, these are in nymph stage.  They get larger and much more black in color as they get older.
